Imposing Nanomedicine: Major Nanotechnology Cancer Treatments 2023

Conventional cancer treatments, which only include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, involve the risk of damaging healthy tissues or partially eradicating cancerous cells. Emerging nanotechnology cancer treatments in 2023 make it possible to increase the therapeutic efficiency of radiation-based treatments and direct the surgical removal of tumours.

As covered below, nanotechnology can potentially transform cancer treatment altogether.

Nanoparticles as Immunotherapy Agents

Traditional cancer treatments that are administered directly can frequently lead to significant adverse effects, compromised targeting, and sensitivity to biodegradation (Chopra et al., 2022).

To address these effects, the American biotech company Cello Therapeutics, based in San Diego, has created platelet-derived membrane-coated nanoparticles for the preclinical stage of immunotherapy agent administration to treat numerous tumours.

This nanotechnology cancer treatment 2023 resulted in tumour regression in a colorectal tumour model and consequently slowed tumour growth in a breast cancer model, showing a superior antitumor immune response (Cello Therapeutics, 2023).

Nanoparticles for Drug deliveries

The American biotech startup ARIZ Precision Medicine aims to use nanotechnology to deliver cancer medications to specific patients precisely. The company is situated in California.

The company's product consists of a nanoparticle that targets a specific type of cancer and contains small interfering RNA (siRNA), which destroys cancer-causing proteins without endangering nearby healthy cells. Both the chemotherapeutic medication and the peptides that target cancer cells are contained in the nanoparticle.

The polymer polyethene glycol (PEG) is added to the nanoparticle through a process known as PEGylation to safeguard the medication (Subhan & Torchilin, 2019). This product is one of the many emerging nanotechnology cancer treatments in 2023.

The emerging nanotechnology cancer treatments in 2023 have produced several encouraging results, including medication delivery, gene therapy, monitoring, and diagnostics. Future advancements in cancer detection and treatment could be facilitated by nanotechnology, but more study is required to get over the present barriers to practical translation.
